Late-night pizza for Kings Heath residents as Papa John's looks to open until 3am

Papa John's on Kings Heath high street could deliver pizzas until 3am on weekends. The takeaway is currently open until 11.30pm, but bosses believe the local community will benefit from late-night deliveries.
Papa John's wants the extended hours to apply on Fridays and Saturdays. Under the application, the branch will only conduct online deliveries after midnight and won't accept walk-ins.
Opening hours on all days excluding Friday and Saturday will be from 11am to 12 midnight. The branch is currently open from 11am to 11.30pm every day.
Mal Singh, Franchise Owner at Papa John's, has been in charge of the Kings Heath branch for one year now. He said: “There are a lot of challenges we are facing nowadays in terms of sales and other things. These additional hours will give us an opportunity to stay open a bit later and serve the community for a longer time.”
Mr Singh added that his branch of Papa John's is planning to invest more into E-bikes, and said the branch hopes to have 60 per cent of their deliveries made using E-bikes by the end of 2022. He said this would be more beneficial to the local area in terms of noise and pollution.
Planning Officer Kate Moriarty said Papa John's previously applied to open until 1am in 2006, but was refused due to concerns over noise and disturbance to local residents. A number of homes surround the takeaway, with one vacant flat directly above Papa John's.
“I think we'd probably find that the harm to the residential properties would outweigh the benefits of the longer opening hours,” Ms Moriarty said.
Mr Singh urged the council to consider King Kebab, a local kebab shop just three doors down from Papa John's that opens until 3.30am on Fridays and Saturdays. Councillors will now discuss the matter in private before announcing their decision on the application within five working days.
