The Crescent Theatre present 'My Night with Reg' by Kevin Elyot and directed by Rod Natkiel.
The scene is set in Guy's flat in London in 1985. It's summer and Guy's friends gather throughout the night for a party. A time and a world that is about to change forever.
I was very apprehensive about this production and approached it with an air of caution and trepidation. However, I was absolutely blown away by this bittersweet and incredibly funny performance crammed full of hilarious one liners, with a dark undercurrent tinged with great sadness.
A thought provoking performance of friendship, relationships, happiness, social pressures and sexual politics delivered eloquently by a very talented cast consisting of Francis Quinn (Eric), Joe Palmer (Guy), Oliver Jones (John), Peter Neenan (Daniel), David Baldwin (Bernie) and Tom Lowde (Bennie).
The production was performed within the Ron Barber Studio at The Crescent Theatre, creating an intimate atmosphere of warmth and happiness. A simple set of a flat with delicate lighting enveloped by a small audience, of approximately one hundred guests on three sides, level with the stage. I felt I was actually silently sitting within the lounge.
It was outstandingly performed and it left me by the end emotional but with a sense of amazement at what had been observed.
The entire production is likely to offend some people as it contains very strong language, mature themes, scenes of a sexual nature, full nudity and the use of cigarettes.
My only criticism being to have had more low level background eighties music particularly during the party scene and I do feel that the advertisements do not do this play justice.
'Phenomenal Performance' are two words to describe this! I must add that this has been one of the best performances I've ever seen and I wish everyone every success with the remaining dates. A performance that was given 110% and a definite five out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A very warm welcome awaits you at The Crescent Theatre and I would like to thank all staff who were extremely friendly and helpful.
